There are a number of reasons your baby may benefit from a feeding or swallowing assessment including (but not limited to):
- Frequent choking or coughing with feeding
- Distress with feeding
- Refusing the breast or bottle
- Feeding taking a long time
- Weak suck
- Anatomical differences such as tongue tie, retrognathia or micrognathia, cleft lip or palate
- Respiratory concerns with feeding (breathing loudly or quickly, changing colour during feeding, making squeaky noises “stridor” with feeding etc.)
- Drooling milk from sides of mouth
