About us
We are Speech Language Therapists registered through the NZSTA, and provide comprehensive assessment and treatment of speech, language and swallowing or feeding disorders for infants, children and young people.
Who do we see?
We see a wide range of children for a variety of communication and feeding needs. Some common difficulties include:
• Speech sound or articulation disorders (speech sounds are unclear, or inability to say certain sounds)
• Speech or language delay (your child may not have started talking at the time expected, or speak very little)
• Stuttering
• Voice disorders, vocal fold nodules (requires assessment by ENT doctor first)
• Swallowing disorders
• Feeding disorders (difficulty transitioning to solid foods, “picky” eaters, sensory feeding difficulties)
• Speech, language or feeding difficulties secondary to a diagnoses such as autism (ASD), Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy etc.
What to expect
We will first see your child for a communication or feeding assessment. This may be a formal assessment or a play-based assessment, or a mealtime, bottle or breastfeeding assessment for feeding or swallowing concerns.
Following assessment, we will provide you with some strategies to begin using to support your child’s speech, language and/or feeding skills.
The length and frequency of treatment depends upon many factors. Some older children with a subtle speech sound disorder, for example, may only need a handful of sessions, whereas a child who has significant communication impairment may benefit from more intensive therapy for a number of weeks.
